No speech

OK. I've tried to find the answer to this but can't. Using Win XP (pro)
Riven installs fine, video is fine. I can get background sound fine. There
is no sound when someone speaks!

I've tried all the QT adjustments but still no talking.
I've tried all the SB adjustments, no speech.
Any suggestions?
