Riven won't run

I recently purchased the DVD version of Riven because I got tired of
constantly swapping CD's. I have 3 computers all running Win XP. I can get
the program to work on only one of the machines even though the 'installing'
process goes smoothly on each. After installation, however, when I click the
desktop icon on two of my machines NOTHING happens. I've even gone directly
into the folder where the execute file was installed and clicking that
results in the same response..NOTHING happens.

Here are some of the specs of the machines: system A has a Pentium 4, 2.8
ghz, 800 mhz FSB processor; system B has a Pentium 4, 2.4 ghz, 800 mhz FSB
processor; and system C has a 1.7 ghz, Celeron processor. System C is the
only one that will run the program after installation. I suspected that my
problem might be the Hyper Threading capabilities of the two Pentium 4
systems so I disabled it with no effect. Since system B is hooked up to my
HDTV I am very anxious to get this resolved. Has anyone had similar
experiences? What next?

Did you buy the "Myst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition", which
contains DVD versions of Myst, Riven and Exile? Or did you
buy the "Riven DVD Edition", which is just Riven by itself on a
DVD?

The first one is new and is XP compatible; the 2nd one is
several years old and isn't XP compatible.

edition [not the older edition]
Hmmm, well that ought to work with XP okay. Have you tried
contacting Ubi tech support?

To get the Windows DVD version of Riven to run under
Windows XP, you have to set the executable to run in
"Windows 98/Windows ME Compatible mode".

To do this, Navigate your Start->Programs... hierarchy
until you reach the Riven executable. RIGHT click on it,
then click on Properties. Choose the Compatibility file
tab, check "Run this program in Compatibility Mode", and
select the Windows 98/Windows ME Compatibility Mode.

Then Riven will run on your XP system.
