Riven beatiful game sold, didnt work on xp, why i dont know.

Hi,

I bought the game Riven with 5 cd's but the game wont install on my windows
xp home version. I dont know why. I tried everything thats possible. And
then I just sold it to a friend who had win 98, the game looked so nice
there and then i was sure i wanted to the game to work on my pc. Why doesnt
it work? Anyone an idea?

You have to disable Cryptographic Services in msconfig.exe.

Download "Riven (PC) Patch v1.02":

After installing this , normal it has to work.This is an update of the
program for the future.When they created the game , xp didn't exist.

That didnt help, but reinstall xp did help, i bought another version of
riven and now it installed as it should be.

I finally picked up the 3 pack of Myst games. Never had the chance to
play Riven. I have XP -added all of MS. security patches as they
came out.
After Service pack 2 , Myst stopped working for me. I reimaged my pc
with XP. Riven installed perfectly and ran perfectly without any
security or critical patches. I don't know which one or ones mess
things up for Riven. Hope this helps.

Because I still am not convinced that servicepack 2 is a good thing for my
pc, so I never installed it (was a good idea). The old 5 cd version of Riven
works perfect (but i just begun with playing the first scene, first i want
to finish some others nice games like uru) on my xp pc. It's wasnt easy but
you can make it work if you know whats wrong, in my case new xp install and
some adjustments (see my previous post).
