Alternate endings

I realize this is sort of a dead newsgroup these days but what the heck.

Playing Riven with the 10th anniversary DVD I can get all alternate endings
except the one where Atrus is signaled too early and Gehn comes along and
shoots him. A square suddenly pops up, seemingly out of sequence and I fall
into the fissure. I am not going back to such an early saved game that I
have "cheated" by obtaining the telescope sequence early from another game.

Don't you get the alternate ending I'm searching for by visiting Gehn, not
capturing him and not freeing Catherine, then open the fissure? I have tried
variations of this and still get the same ending.

Better yet, how do you extract the movies from the DVD version?
